VHG – The Running With Horses – Part 1: The Speed of Spirit

VHG DISCUSSION: RUNNING WITH HORSES – PART 1

THE SPEED OF SPIRIT!

Summary:

The Speed of Spirit emphasizes the need for the modern church to move at the pace of God’s Spirit to stay ahead of the changes taking place in this world. With an understanding that Spirit or spirits move and shape this world, the believer recognizes the importance of aligning with the Spirit of God. Choosing to be a transformist, one who can balance their necessary preparations for the Lord’s return while skillfully seeking to transform the systems and social structures of this world, the modern believer understands that their salvation does not start or end with the worship service. Instead, they know that the transformation that has taken place within them is only effective when put into practice in the world around them. Moving at the speed of Spirit enables us to proactively affect change in our world for the glory of God and for the good of humanity.

Discussion Questions:

  • The Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit or spirits determine the shaping of this world, which is then manifested through people, systems, and structures. Whether it’s the Holy Spirit affecting change, [Gen. 1:2], or wicked spirits advancing a demonic agenda [Eph. 6:12], our world is moved by spirit. The born-again Spirit-filled believer is summoned to move in sync with the Holy Spirit to ensure that the church is never behind in the happenings of this world. Discuss some ways in which we can ensure that, as believers, we are moving at the same pace as the Holy Spirit, and what does alignment with God’s Spirit look like practically?
  • According to the Scripture, there are three essential disciplines that fuel the Holy Spirit and empower the believer to move in spiritual alignment with God. The discipline of consuming the word [Matt. 4:4], the discipline of prayer coupled with fasting [Mark 9:29], and a life of praise, [Ps. 67:5-6], serve to fuel the work of the indwelling Spirit. Discuss and list some practical ways in which we can maintain consistency in these areas, avoiding lapses or prolonged periods of inactivity in these disciplines. Share some tips on your reading/study habits, your prayer closet experiences or your fasting routine.
Prayer: Father, Teach Us How To Move At The Speed Of Your Spirit, in Jesus name.
